Permanent, not removable, on recyclable board
Corrugated fibre is soft — a removable adhesive tends to tear the surface rather than release cleanly, and boxes are usually recycled with the label attached anyway. A permanent acrylic is almost always the right choice for cardboard.
Direct thermal fades — thermal transfer lasts
Direct-thermal needs no ribbon and is perfect for print-on-demand shipping labels used within days, but the image fades with time, heat and light. For labels that must stay scannable through the supply chain or outdoors, thermal-transfer with a wax-resin ribbon is the durable choice.
GS1 for retailers
Major retailers require pallet and carton labels to follow GS1 standards — GS1-128 barcodes carrying the SSCC unit ID, printed to a minimum grade and placed in fixed zones. If you ship into big-box retail, design to GS1 from the start rather than retrofitting.
