Euphora
Problem Nº 04 of 10
§ Field Problem · Nº 04 Oil-Resistant

“I need a label that
doesn't stain in oil.

Most label failures in oil environments are not adhesion failures — they are absorption failures. The substrate wicks up the oil and stains. The right material doesn't even let the oil reach the back of the label.

The Euphora scale

Levels,
measured not marketed.

Manufacturers love absolute claims. We made a scale because “oil-resistant” means different things in different jobs. Pick the level your job actually requires.

Field Notes

Questions we
get most weeks.

Q. 01
Why does my olive-oil bottle label discolour?
Uncoated paper absorbs the oil from the bottle surface (or from drips). Specify a coated face stock or a film substrate.
Q. 02
What about hot oil (deep-fry, fryer hood)?
Standard PET handles up to 120 °C. For sustained hot-oil contact, specify chemical-grade specialty PET rated to 150 °C+.
Q. 03
Are there food-safe oil-resistant materials?
BOPP and PET both carry FDA / EFSA food-contact approvals when produced to spec. Verify when sourcing.
Q. 04
My coffee-bag label stains. What's happening?
Coffee oils migrate through uncoated Kraft within weeks. Specify Kraft with full barrier coating, or use BOPP.
